On Wednesday, March 28th Emily officially turned two. Even though we celebrated on Sunday, we of course took the opportunity to party again on her actual birthday. She was a big fan of the attention and was relieved to see all of her Bubble Guppy decorations were still displayed proudly that morning.
She was happy to start her day with lots of birthday love from her sisters and even a birthday song via Skype from Gram and Pop. After the big girls went to school she had her favorite breakfast (McDonald’s pancakes) and ate at the coffee table while watching a new episode of Bubble Guppies. The trifecta of 2 year old awesomeness.
At lunch time there was another birthday miracle. Not only was Brooke done with preschool, but Katelyn got out early because of parent-teacher conferences that week. So we picked up the girls and headed to Subway.
Next up was a highly anticipated trip to Build-A-Bear that Emily had been asking to do since Brooke’s birthday. Our good friends in Utah, the Hoppers, sent her a gift card, and she was ready to use it. It was actually really fun to watch her carefully select the perfect bear and then go through the little ceremony with such seriousness.
She did everything on her own but got lots of input from her sisters.
Once we finished at Build-A-Bear, the girls wanted to take her for an “Emily focused” trip to Chuck E Cheese. She loved every minute of it and it was fun watching Katelyn and Brooke make the day special for her. Emily is a happy go lucky kid and always goes with the flow, so she was in heaven when the flow was 100% her way.
After an afternoon of insanity fun, it was time for Emily to take a nap to recharge her birthday batteries. When she woke up, the party marched on – she had another one of her favorite meals for dinner – broccoli and hot dogs.
Then we surprised her with a “sorry you’re the third kid and get every left over/hand-me down known to man” present. Since she was so sad that the 7 year old Leapster didn’t work quite right, we decided we would remedy that problem and give Emily some bargaining power with Brooke. The look on Brooke’s face when she opened it, says it all.
Emily was thrilled with her LeapPad and it has definitely given her some coolness leverage with Brooke when it comes to sharing toys.
Finally it was was time to sing and have cupcakes with some of her favorite buddies. Emily was so excited to see her number 2 candle atop a tower of Bubble Guppy cupcakes.
She loved hearing the birthday song one more time and happily blew her candle out.
After a fun party, the girls got ready for bed. I found them all on my bed with their electronic devices. It was so funny – they were all in “the zone.”
We hope you had a happy happy 2nd birthday Emily. We had so much fun celebrating you! We love you so much and are so grateful you are a part of our family!
