The Day We Learned About Sunflowers

This year as part of our gardening adventure, we decided to plant sunflowers.  The Easter bunny left the girls a book called    Mortimer’s First Garden – the little mouse in the story planted sunflowers and then harvested the seeds.  Brooke and Katelyn decided they wanted to try the same thing.  I was just glad the story made them want sunflowers and not a pet mouse.

The girls decided on a package that said “Kid-Sized” Sunflowers… I had no idea that wasn’t a misnomer.

Brooke’s sunflower turned out to be exactly the same size as her.  Katelyn’s flower surged in height the just days before it bloomed so it ended up being slightly taller that than her and at least double the size of Brooke’s.

They have loved watching them grow and now they are anxious to “harvest the seeds to get ready for next year.
