The Day We Went Hunting

So our day before Easter was filled with fun and lots of hunting and crafting.  We started out at the Easter Egg Hunt Scramble at one of our local parks.  It was a beautiful day and so nice to be able to go as a family this year.  Last year, Emily was back in the hospital, so we had to divide and conquer that weekend.  It was great to be all together this year and the sunshine was intoxicating.

When we got to the park we found a couple of Easter bunnies and  “little” Kyle and Kara – even though the kids were in different age groups for the “hunt” the kids had a great time together.

 

Katelyn had a good time hunting and Emily loved watching her.

The last time I watched Brooke hunt for eggs, she was only two years old.  It’s amazing how grown up a four year old can seem.  She loved gathering the eggs and kept her eye on the prize.  Before the hunt started, she surveyed the field and found the perfect pink egg.  It definitely wasn’t the closest but she was determined that it would be hers.  Fortunately, she got that beautiful pink egg and a bunch more.

The girls surveyed their loot together and even though most of the candy had  some form of a nut in it, on it or around it (so Brooke couldn’t eat it), she didn’t care, because that perfect pink egg contained a pink Hershey's kiss.  Life doesn’t get much better than that.

After some fun in the sun it was time to finish up the Easter bags the girls had been making and decorate our bunny cakes.  I toyed with the idea of not doing the cakes this year and the girls protested.  It really is a fun and tasty tradition.  The girls are getting so good at decorating that they don’t need my help anymore so I got to decorate too.

 

After our frosting buzz wore off, we headed to another Egg Hunt.  This time it really was a hunt and the weather was even more spectacular.  It was so fun just hanging out in the sunshine with my awesome little family. 

Emily discovered how much she likes soda and Katelyn and Brooke loved the amazing outdoor fortress they got to play on, not to mention how much they loved finding eggs that were actually hidden.

After the hunting we played in our own yard for awhile.  Then it was time to color some eggs.  The girls did a great job and I love watching their very different and deliberate egg dying methods.

We had a great day filled with lots of family fun and traditions I hope we will always continue.
