The Day We Raked In The Fun

Raking up the leaves 10-27-11dThe only thing better than seeing the beautiful fall leaves is jumping in them.  The girls were so anxious to rake them up this year.  To add to the fun, Kate’s BFF Sara came over to help.  The girls raked and raked and raked.  Then, they jumped and jumped and jumped.  What a great way to spend an afternoon.  Rake, run, jump, repeat.

Fortunately, all three girls were great about my probably-too-graphic lesson in rake and leaf jumping safety.  In fact, they even humored me enough that when they would switch from running and jumping back to raking, they would announce, “Approaching the pile with a rake!”  I didn’t even make that request.  But I think my tales of having a rake embedded in their skull caught their attention enough that they came up with the phase without hesitation.

Since we had such a dry fall, the leaves weren’t slimy and there wasn’t any panicking due to unexpected or unexplained wetness.  I was a little concerned about what bugs were hiding in there, but decided to just let them enjoy enjoy themselves.

When they were tired from all the raking, running and jumping they decided to bury themselves and take on the form of leaf monsters.  It was hilarious and I was both floored and relieved that my claustrophobia and/or arachnophobia gene(s) didn’t kick in for either of the girls.  Sara is always hard core and she led the charge of foliage based bravery well.

They finished things off by making leaf angels and then decided to simulate rain using leaves.  Talk about a perfect fall day.  The only downside was that Emily napped through all the fun, so instead of bagging up the leaves like responsible watershed residents, we decided to leave them for another day of fall fun.
