The Day We Got Our Garden Started

During spring break we got our garden started by planting our starts in the house.  This is always a favorite activity for Katelyn and Brooke, and now Emily is hooked too.  She doesn’t like being dirty, but shoveling dirt was a bit hit.

This year Katelyn and Brooke also made special signs to mark all of their seeds.  They even illustrated each one and we laminated them so the water wouldn’t ruin them once the plants moved outside.  Unfortunately, the “greenhouse” lids we had were so effective that the moisture penetrated the lamination and our little signs grew mold and the labels washed away.

We finished planting our seed starts outside on a really nice spring day.

Once again, Emily was 100% on board with the project and the girls did a great job teaching her how to plant seeds.

Once we were finished the girls enjoyed the backyard and the end of a great spring day.

Eight days later we had little starts – the girls were thrilled!

It was too early to plant anything outside but we got to work on our weed patch anyway.  It was so nice that Katelyn and Brooke were big enough to actually help with the weeding.  We had our garden ready in no time.

As the weeks passed, we kept the starts warm and watered.

At the beginning of June we finally moved everything outside and planted the rest of our seeds.  We are all so excited to watch everything grow.  Eating veggies fresh off the vine is something we look forward to all year.
