The Day We Celebrated Halloween

Kate Brooke & Em - Halloween 2012Since Halloween 2013 is fast approaching, I decided I better document the festivities for 2012.  Halloween is such a fun kid holiday, the girls were excited and had gotten to wear costumes to dance class all week.  School parties are always so much fun and Brooke was very excited for hers.

Only one other person had offered to helped me with the Kindergarten party, so I was a little bit worried about how things would turn out.  But Brooke’s teachers and all of the kids were so great – everything went smoothly and the kids had a blast.

We marched in the school parade and played fun games…

Brooke has such a fun class – we had a great time and I was so glad I could be there to help out.

Meanwhile at the elementary school – Katelyn and her buddies were having their Halloween party.  It was the first time I’d ever missed one of her parties.  We were both disappointed, but she recognized that it was Brooke’s turn.  Fortunately, I had some good friends send me pictures and Katelyn told us all about the fun when she got home.

While Katelyn and Brooke partied, Emily napped and rested up for an evening of fun.  She was ready to get the party started as soon as she woke up.  Scary teeth were at the top of her list of favorite things about Halloween.

We skipped dance so we could get ready to trick-or-treat.  We made mini pizzas and got to open a Halloween care package that arrived from Gram and Pop.  We ate and then it was time for costumes.

Our first stop was to see Papa Don and Grandma Sue… they set the trick-or-treating bar pretty high.  They had individual gift bags for the girls.  It was so nice of them and the girls couldn’t believe the awesomeness of it all.

Shortly after we left the Conner’s we were able to rendezvous with “little” Kyle and Kara.  We always trick or treat together so all of the kids were so glad when we were able to meet up.

At first the big kids thought that Emily was slowing them down, but they quickly realized that even though she went slower, she yielded a lot more candy because of her adorableness.  Their earning potential when they were with her was much higher, so going slower wasn’t so bad after all.

When we were done trick or treating, it was time to come home and sort and redistribute the candy.  We have a mom and dad tax, plus Brooke trades away her nut infused treats.  It was really a round-robin when Katelyn had to trade away anything chewy because of braces.  The bottom line is that I end up with a nice supply of peanut butter cups and butterfingers so I can refill my “eat in a closet when it’s been a rough day” stash for the year.

Emily had a mouthful of treats for the rest of the night but managed to “play gold” with Kyle on his phone while she gorged herself on chocolate.

Despite her sugar high, the big day wore her out and she was asleep in seconds.  Even though she was out cold, she had a firm grip on the glow sticks she’d collected throughout the day.

Sweet dreams little princess.
