The Day that was to “Dye” for

Even though we had lots of fun things planned for our Saturday in Boise, something Brooke told me changed things a bit.  The night before, she woke up crying and when I asked her what was wrong, she abruptly stuck her index finger deep inside her right ear and said “HURT!”  Within an hour she had a fever, so I found on InstaCare and we were there waiting when they opened that morning.  Dr. Brooke was right, she had successfully gotten her first ear infection just in time for Easter weekend.  Two hours later, we were back at grandma’s house with antibiotics and ear drops that helped Brooke’s mood improve quickly.

Once we saw she was feeling better, Rani and I took the kids to an outdoor Easter carnival at a nearby church.  Katelyn and Calvin had a blast and tried everything.  Brooke was more content to watch all the action while I held her.  When the length of the lines outweighed the fun, we decided to head back to grandma’s house to dye eggs.

Grandma Carol set up a great coloring station… they each had a dozen eggs, plenty of dye colors, stickers, egg crayons and sparkly stuff we never figured out how to use right.  Brooke and Calvin were also lucky enough to have Bug and Jaleese as their personal “egg-sistants” to help them.  But since they are two, they made it clear that they didn’t need help, but they were happy to have Bug and Jaleese dye eggs with them.  Everyone had a blast and it was fun to see how the kids each have their own style of dying eggs. 

Katelyn carefully and methodically used the egg dipper to make beautiful eggs which she positioned in rainbow order.  Calvin dyed his entire hand along with the eggs and punctured some of them in the process.  Brooke also used her hand but had a definite system.  Each egg was half pink or purple.  No other colors were used and she did not like it when I suggested that she could dye the other half of the egg too.  She had a process and a vision… my OCD gene is strong in this one too :)

 

The kids also loved putting the finishing touches on their eggs.  Brooke was a big fan of the stickers and they all enjoyed the sparkly paints.  It was a really fun afternoon and the girls had so much fun spending time with their grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins.
