The Day We Celebrated Halloween

Kate Brooke & Emily on Halloween 10-31-10a

Since Halloween was on a Sunday this year, we got to celebrate for three days.  The girls all had a blast and we enjoyed celebrating with lots of friends throughout the weekend.

This year the girls went as Minnie Mouse, Snow White and a Blue Witch

It was our first year with a blue witch, but here is a picture of Brooke as Minnie three years ago, and Katelyn as Snow White four years ago.

There were fun games, great crafts and lots of treats!

Library party with kyle kara kate brooke & emily 10-29-10a

Next up was the Halloween party at the library with “little” Kyle and Kara.  Again the kids enjoyed lots of fun games, activities, crafts and apples.  There was even a spook house, but only Katelyn and Emily decided to check it out with me.  The real girl in a metal cage crying Brooke's apple at the library 10-29-10aout, “Please help me!  Get me out of here!” would have resulted in endless years of therapy for Brooke, so I was glad she didn't join us.   Emily loved watching all the kids and will be thrilled to join in on all the fun next year.  She tried her hardest, but only got to be a spectator.

Bat cake with kyle kara kate & brooke 10-29-10Next was game night at our house with the Wills.  Katelyn has been wanting to learn how to decorate cakes, so after a brief tutorial, she ended up doing most of the decorating of our annual “bat cake.”  Everyone loved it and Katelyn was so proud of all of her hard work.

Brooke & Kate's pumpkins 10-30-10aOn Saturday we carved and pumpkins and the girls painted their mini pumpkins from the farmer’s market.   They did a great job and had a really good time.

Kate & Brooke on halloween 10-30-10aNext it was time for trick or treating.  Emily stayed home with Kyle to hand out candy, so we headed out with Kyle and Kara to hit the houses.  We really lucked out and had good weather.  The kids had a blast!

The crew at trunk or treat 10-30-10Next up was the trunk or treat at church.  Ben, Bradley, Blake and their mom met up with us there – Katelyn loved having so many of her buddies in one place.

The kids all had a blast and got lots of candy.  Emily made her trick or treating debut there and LOVED it!  She didn’t know what they were putting in her bucket, but she would squeal and flap at each trunk to show her enthusiasm nonetheless.

Kate Ben & Bradley 10-29-10bEver since they met in Kindergarten, Katelyn, Ben and Bradley have wanted to trick or treat together.  But this was the first year it worked out – they had a blast and we are planning on doing it again next year too.

After the trunk or treat, Emily tried out some door to door trick or treating… she was a big fan and all smiles.  She is easy to please and so fun to show new things too.

Emily's Halloween loot 10-30-10Then we headed home so the girls could check out their loot.  Emily thought all the wrappers were amazing and suckers were definitely her favorite (more about that in another post).  Brooke had to give away anything with nuts and Katelyn had to give up all of her chewy candies that would derail her orthodontics by pulling her appliance out of her mouth.  They were still left with more than enough candy and everybody tried out their favorites.

On Sunday after church the party continued.  The girls had their fill of getting candy and now were anxious to hand it out.  They got in their costumes and let the fun began.  They both loved answering the door, but Brooke really really loved it and that became her job when the novelty wore off for Katelyn.  As you can see in the video, Katelyn was busy entertaining Minnie Mouse with a game of Witch Hat Peek-A-Boo.  It was a great holiday and I am glad we had three days to spread out the fun.  Doing all of this in one day, would have finished me off.

Happy Halloween!

Ok, your girls are TOO precious! Even though there is all the drama with girls, it's gotta pay off for days like this when you can dress then WAY prettier than boys!
