The day we had a sNOw day

This year the school district built two snow days into the school calendar just in case we had a repeat of our snowfall in December of 2008. Since it was the middle of February and we still hadn’t used a snow day, the kids got an extra day off for President’s Day weekend.  Knowing this day was coming, the girls decided weeks ahead of time that they wanted to spend their “snow day” at Mobius.  The day finally came and their was definitely no snow in sight, so we grabbed Katelyn’s BFF Sara (and her awesome mom Laura) and headed downtown.

You know it is going to be a great day when even the ride to your destination is fun.  Everyone was excited to go in the tiny door and get the party started.

We started off with one of their favorites, the Plasma cars.  They were a huge hit with everyone and the girls rode on them for miles.  Brooke liked dressing up to and made a great crossing guard on the motorway.

 

They had a great time checking out the fun experiments.  Brooke and Emily also really enjoyed the Filipino Island Village.  Emily enjoyed hanging out in the hut and helped Brooke set up a tea party, complete with giant fish.  Emily didn’t cook with her carrot, instead she used it to make music by banging it on a tin container. 

The girls thought the new construction zone exhibit was great.  They really wanted to hoist Emily up in one of the buckets and were disappointed that I wouldn’t go along with the idea.  They “built” and painted until their hearts were content.

Next up we headed for the stage.  They put on some great shows for us and Brooke managed to find a beautiful yellow ensemble so she could be “fancy” for the show.

Emily got in on the band action with a drum, but her favorite instrument was the smiley face on a stick that Sara made for her.  Once she picked it up, she never let it go… at least not until she dropped it about an hour and a half later and then it magically “disappeared.”

Next up was art time… the girls painted and painted.  They thought it was great and Laura and I thought it was great that it wasn’t being done in our homes

Next up, Katelyn and Sara headed back for more fun with the Plasma cars, so I took Brooke and Emily into the Enchanted Forrest play area.

Emily loved playing in the tunnels with Brooke.  Notice she was still hanging on to her smiley stick.

Brooke was proud to be the entertainer but she also loved exploring the tree house and jumping into the “pool.”

Emily was thrilled with the things she found to explore.

I was thrilled watching Brooke and Emily have so much fun together.  Katelyn is such a good Cruise Director of the S.S. Sisterhood, that sometimes they don’t know what to do when she isn’t around.  I was happy to see them have so much fun together and for Katelyn to enjoy some time with Sara sans the little people that they are both always so good to include.

We eventually took a lunch break and did a little shopping.  The highlight was when I dropped my diet Coke at Bath and Body Works, but somehow caught it INSIDE the diaper bag.  It was a great lesson on why you don’t take food or beverages into stores.  The kids thought it was hilarious.

After lunch, the girls discovered the water table and mud/digging area the same time they found the goggles.  They were thrilled and Laura and I were thoroughly amused.

Emily finally passed out about 3:30 – she’s usually finished two naps by then but Mobius was way too exciting to sleep through.  I could tell she was getting tired, so I put her in the Baby Bjorn and she passed out for the last half hour of fun.  That’s the sign of a great NO snow day.

*** Update*** We ended up having a real “snow day” just six days later.  So if we have anymore you’ll need to remind me how much fun we had at Mobius when we are still going to school at the end of June.
