The Day We Learned About Picking Corn

Picking corn - Brooke Kate & Em 8-24-12a

The girls have always wanted to grow corn but our little garden isn’t quite big enough.  So we decided to go on an adventure and pick corn at one of our favorite local farms.

It was a beautiful summer day and we were the only people in the field.  The girls were amazed at how tall the corn stalks were and how hard it was to pick the ears of corn.

The had a ball finding the beast ears to pick and filling up our buckets.

They also loved posing with their corn for me.

We even learned what moldy corn stalks looks like.

But their favorite discovery was learning that picking corn also meant finding hundreds of lady bugs.  They loved peaking  behind and under the leaves and finding clusters of lady bugs.  They loved holding them and were so happy when we discovered that several lady bugs decided to come home with us in our boxes of corn.  The girls set them free in our garden.

I love that my girls are always up for an adventure – they make every day special and I truly don’t know what I would do without them.
