The Day Brooke Had Her Author Party

To celebrate the end of 1st grade and becoming such good writers, Brooke’s class had an Author’s Party.  It was a beautiful June day and the kids were all so excited to share their work.  To start the event, their teacher gave a few remarks and proceeded to thank the parents for all we’d done to help our little authors.  The kids then got up and stood in front of a giant Thank You banner that they made and recited a poem about their appreciation to us for helping them on their scholastic journey.  It was so sweet and as if that wasn’t enough, the kids gave their parents (and adoring siblings) a beautiful potted flower and a huge hug.  It was awesome and Brooke was seriously so proud.

 

Then in smaller groups they went to the front and shared a favorite poem or story that they had prepared.  As soon as Brooke started hers, I immediately recognized it.  She’d been reciting it for weeks and made sure she had it just right.  It was so adorable and the kids were all so happy.  Brooke had done a great job keeping a lid on all of the surprises – she looked overjoyed to finally be able to share everything they’d been working on with us.  Since I helped out in the classroom all year, not much was ever a surprise, so she loved that this one went off without a hitch.  The celebration ended with each of the kids receiving their book from their awesome teacher and then we got to sit on the grass and look through it together.  Brooke happily went over every page and I loved every minute of it.

I am so grateful for such a loving teacher that helped my budding author learn to love writing and story telling.  We are so proud of you Brooke and look forward to reading all of your stories for many years to come.
