For Brooke's first visit to the dentist, she was lucky enough to have Katelyn with her to show her the ropes. Brooke has been to the office several times so she was excited because she likes any kind of "doctor pointment." She also remembered the cool fish they have in the office. As soon as we walked in, she headed over to the tank and and announced "Hi Fish! I'm Brooke. How are you doing?" The receptionist almost fell off her chair.
After some time with the fish the girls headed over to the toy corner. Brooke of course picked a puzzle just like one we have at home and Katelyn found a book. Moments later, Katelyn was called back. Since she was having x-rays taken, we were going to wait before heading back, but Brooke was not on board with that plan. As Katelyn walked away she yelled, "WAIT SISSY!" Come back! PLAY!" But before we knew it, it was Brooke's turn to head back to the chair.
Katelyn loves the dentist, so she set a great example for Brooke. Brooke liked the chair but was not a fan of big scary dentist guy. She eventually complied and he was able to take a look, but they just sent the fluoride home with me to apply on her teeth - Brooke loved it and they got to bill our insurance for a full exam - so it worked out for everyone, except Met Life.
Once the exams were over, both girls earned the coveted special quarter to use in the prize machine. They also got "treat bags" that they were both thrilled with. If you didn't know better, you would think they had just been to a birthday party. Katelyn explained the machine to Brooke and Brooke anxiously waited for her prize. The mini basketball was a hit and Katelyn got a heart ring. Good times.
The best part to me, besides the fact that both girls were cavity free was to watch them together. With a four and a half year age difference I never expected them to be so close. I am so glad that they love each other so much and that they support and help each other with everything. Maybe I would enjoy the dentist more if I had a buddy go with me to help me through it.
