A few months ago, Katelyn's BFF invited her to sign up for "Upward" Cheerleading. I didn't know much about the program but Katelyn was really excited to give it a try with Sara so we signed her up. I was pleasantly surprised to find that "Upward" is a terrific program that really focuses on giving younger children positive experiences with sports and teaches them how to do just that.
After a month of practices it was time for them to cheer for their first basketball game. They really try to build up the kids and give them the full experience - they run through a tunnel with smoke and everything - it was so cool!
The other thing that was especially neat about their first game is that they got to cheer for their good friends Ben and Bradley. We actually knew players on both teams and had so much fun cheering for them all.
The girls on Katelyn's squad, "The Ladybugs" were all so sweet. They had a lot of fun together and it was so much fun to watch them. They were darling!
Half time was their favorite part of the game though... they would introduce each girl and then they'd perform their halftime routine.![]()

After each game, the squad would go back to their practice room and the coaches would give out awards based on the Upward values. It was so neat to watch them receive their awards and know that they had done a great job.
The girls had a great season and ended their last game with a big group hug. Then, their coach took them all out to lunch - they loved every minute of it. We are so glad that Katelyn and Sara got to do this together. They are both already looking forward to going "Upward" again next year.![]()
