The Day We Took Emily Camping

Round Lake State Park 8-28-10aOne of Katelyn’s birthday wishes was for our family to go camping again.  The last time we went, Brooke was about 7 months old.  So we decided that 5 month old Emily should give it a try.  I actually think it is easier to take babies camping than wobbly, rogue toddlers – hence the reason we haven’t been for a few years.  So we headed into Idaho for a campout at Round Lake State Park.

The girls were so excited about “campsite 16” and had a great time exploring.

They loved finding sticks but Brooke had trouble not tripping over them too.  You can see how unhappy it made her to fall flat on her face multiple times during our exploration activity.

Next we headed for the lake.  It was beautiful and sunny and the girls loved playing in the sand.

Next it was time to head back to our campsite for dinner.  Kyle had set everything up and was ready to teach the girls how to light a fire.  Emily watched the process from her chair and ate her bunny rabbit.

Here they are roasting some hotdogs for dinner.

Everything tastes so good when it is cooked over a campfire.

Brooke's camping show 8-27-10To end the evening we had S’mores and hung out around the fire.  The girls were being so silly with their lanterns and flashlights.  Brooke wrote a song that had us crying we were laughing so hard.  It went to the tune of “Hard Knock Life” from Annie, but the words were much better.  It started something like this: “It’s a hard long day, for me…” It was so funny but she wouldn’t do it when we had the cameras rolling.

It was pretty cold that night, so everyone was nestled all snug in their multiple sleeping bags.  I think it is the first night ever that Brooke kept her covers on all night long.

When morning came, he happy campers were excited for breakfast – Kyle made scrambled eggs and bacon in the wild and they were fantastic.

Brooke doesn't like soot 8-28-10Brooke liked cooking over the fire but didn’t like it when she got soot on her face and couldn’t get it off.  I think the fact that we were laughing didn’t help either.

We did more exploring after breakfast.

The wood pecker holes and squirrel sighting were our favorites.

It was another beautiful day and the girls had a blast playing in the water.

Emily loved the sand and was determined to eat it.  She also loved hanging out with her dad and watching all the fun at the lake.  It was such a great camping trip – we all had a blast and are looking forward to our next camping adventure.

You have such a cute family! That looks like a lot of fun! Even though I'm sure there was a lot of work involved for the awesome mom too. :)
