On August 28th, Emily turned 5 months old, weighing in at 15 pounds. She spent the weeks leading up to this milestone enjoying food and her newfound mobility.
Besides playing with her adoring sisters, she loves spending time in her Exersaucer and watching Baby Einstein shows. She is also very happy when she is in the Baby Bjorn – she is happy as long as she is being “held” so that makes it much easier for me to get things done. I call it my Baby Bluetooth, since it is a “hands-free” carrying option. The only downside to it, is that she tries to grab everything and is typically quite successful.
She is such a grabber that Katelyn even resorted to wearing her hair in a ponytail one day to keep it out of arms reach. When she leaned down to play with Emily, she found that her plan had a flaw. Emily grabbed her bangs and wouldn’t let go. It’s a good thing Katelyn adores her.
She loves to roll around – we call that trick “the steamroller.” Most of the time it makes her happy. But when she gets stuck, she is usually too mad to get out of her predicament. She also likes to squeal and talk by making noises that sound a lot like a cat’s meow, so the girls affectionately call her “Kitty.” Emily and I both grin every time they call her that.
Here are some other exciting “firsts” from this month:
On August 6th, Emily tried rice cereal for the first time. She wasn’t sure what to expect but her sisters were so excited to help.
Emily loved her cereal and didn’t care who fed her as long as it kept coming.
Emily loved each bite of food so much that she would shake as she saw the spoon approaching. Then she’d grab the spoon as it came towards her mouth. Once it was in, she would hold it in place until she decided she was mad that it was empty.
On August 10th, Emily enjoyed eating her first pickle (garlic flavored nonetheless) during our adventure in Seattle with the Yosts. The pictures don’t describe how much she absolutely LOVED it. She would shake with excitement just looking at it and then once it was in her mouth, she would latch on and go to town. She smelled like a deli sandwich afterwards… Yuck! But it was so cute event though it produced a ridiculous amount of drool!
On August 14th, Emily tried squash for the first time. Once again, she loved it and would shake in anticipation of each bite.
This time she not only grabbed the spoon, but also jammed it into her throat. She loved the squash but wasn’t a fan of the gagging.
Her favorite treat of all this month would have to be snow cones. She absolutely loves them. She gets excited at first but then gets in “the zone” and seems like she is almost in a trance when she is eating one. We’ve decided it is because the cold feels good on her gums. I also think she is a big fan of the high fructose corn syrup.
This was such a great month with Emily – we are having so much fun with her and she is such a sweet baby. We can’t wait to see what adventures this next month bring will bring but I wouldn’t mind if things slowed down a little bit.
