The Day Emily Turned 2

Even though I have already documented the celebrations surrounding Emily’s 2nd birthday, I wanted to make sure to properly document her at this age that is practically perfect.

Emily is such a fun and happy little girl.  She makes everyone laugh so hard with her silliness.  She is also very very sweet and aware of other’s feelings.  One of my favorite things that she does is check on someone when she thinks they are sad or something is wrong.  She’ll say in a very sweet little voice, “You ok mom?” or “Oh no! Kaynen (Katelyn) sad?”  It is precious and she will always give you a hug and kiss to make you feel better.

Another one of her phrases that melts my heart is when she says, “[name], I need you please.”  Fortunately, she hasn’t figured out that she could really manipulate us with that one, how do you say no to that much sweetness?"  Katelyn and I never can resist that request.

Another crowd pleaser is when she gets excited about something and exclaims, “I can’t wait!”  The first time she said that, we were getting ready to do something she’d never done, so she had no idea if she’d enjoy it or not, but she knew we were excited, so she followed those all important social cues and jumped on the excitement bandwagon.

She is crazy about the “Bubble Guppies” and loves watching and singing and dancing along to their underwater adventures.

There is something she loves even more than her Guppies though, her sisters.  She loves doing anything, as long as it is with them.  She loves dressing up too and always tries to incorporate that into anything they do.

She is also really good at getting her sisters to do what she wants without then even realizing it.  Her current favorite thing is to eat breakfast at the counter, but we only have room for two bar stools.  So Emily managed to find a work around and her sisters were happy to accommodate her enthusiasm.

 

 

Emily also ADORES her grandparents.  She loves them and uses her cuteness to get them to happily participate in all of her favorite past times. 

She still loves shoes and slippers and wears any and all pairs she can find.  My clogs with a 2 inch heel are her favorite.  The only thing that makes wearing them even better is accessorizing them with one of her favorite headbands.

After my post explaining her love of headbands that are not meant to be worn out in public, my good friend Bonnie gave her four new ones, she loves them so much that she usually wears them all at the same time.  They are a little tight on her head though, so I think they may be causing brain damage.

A month or so ago she came up with a game that she loves to play.  She’ll shove her hands behind her back and say, “Oh no!  Hands gone!”  It is hilarious to watch her expression as she thinks she has tricked us.  The game started one night at dinner when she didn’t want to eat anymore, so she made her hands disappear.  Then she turned it into a cute silly game to distract us from the task at hand.  I don’t remember for sure, but I bet she didn’t have to finish her dinner that night.

She loves to be silly and tries to look grown up.  When ever she puts on glasses, we say “Oh look!  There’s smart baby!”  She loves it.  She also loves to give us her silly grin for pictures.  It still makes me laugh.

She loves riding in the Barbie jeep.  Katelyn and Brooke are happy to take her for rides but she has already tried to drive herself a couple of times on her own.

She also really likes to go for rides in the Build-A-Bear car.  Even though it was designed for stuffed animals, it is a perfect fit for her and she thinks it is all kinds of fun.  She loves to beep the horn and usually enlists one of both of her sisters to push her around in it.

She is also our resident monkey.  She loves to hang on anything and swing.  Her favorite spot to do it however, is at the top of the slides in our yard.  It scares me to death which is why I don’t have any pictures of it.  I am too busy trying to keep her from breaking her cute little neck.

She loves her Pez guys and playing any version of doll house that she can get in on.  If there are cute tiny parts and pieces or pretty princesses, she wants a piece of the action.  She also has a love for purses packed full of crap treasures.  If anything goes missing at our house, there is a very good chance it is tucked away in one of her many bags or satchels.

As the weather warms up, her favorite thing is to be outside swinging, sliding, climbing or blowing bubbles, as long as she has her crew with her.  She loved our visit to the Discovery Center with her sisters and cousin Calvin – they had the bubble maker all to themselves and had a blast.

One of my other favorite things is when Emily will turn to me and say, “I’m HAPPY mom!”  Sometimes it is after she was sad and she lets me know she’s feeling better.  Other times, it is out of the blue and just her letting me know how much she loves life.  It makes us all smile and her giant hugs and kisses make us all feel happy.

We love you so much Emily and are so grateful for all of your sweet, silly spunkiness.  You are so much fun and bring so much joy and love into our family.  Happy 2nd Birthday Sweetheart!
