The Day We Went Hunting

On Saturday of Easter weekend we were so happy to have beautiful sunny weather for our egg hunts.  We started out at a local park that does an egg scramble.  There really isn’t any hunting involved, there are just a bazillion eggs in sectioned off areas, but the kids love it!

Emily was THRILLED with collecting eggs.  When one of the popped open and she discovered the awesome eggs were filled with super awesome treats, she was ecstatic!  She looked at me with a “why didn’t you tell me there was candy inside?” kind of look.

The girls all had a blast and Emily finished off her morning with a big hug for the Easter Bunny. 

Our next hunt wasn’t until later that afternoon, so we finished up lunch and then it was time to dye eggs.

The girls had a blast and I feel so bad that we didn’t wait for Emily, but it was our only free window of time to it and I knew she’d need to recharge her batteries to be ready to hunt that afternoon.  The good part is that she has no idea what she missed.  Win-win right?

After her nap and the girls’ egg dying extravaganza, it was time to head for the hills.  This is my favorite egg hunt because the kids actually get to hunt.  This super nice family from Church stuffs and hides around 7,000 eggs on their multi-acre wooded property.  The fact that they tell you to “check for ticks” when you are done, lets you know it is going to be awesome!  What made it even better is that we went with our good friends the Wills and the McGills and everyone had a great time. 

Brooke and Emily hunted together in the area for kids under six.  They had a ball and ran around like crazy.

When all the eggs had been collected, Kyle extended the fun for Emily by taking eggs out of her basket when she wasn’t looking and tossing them back out into the grass for her. It made the fun last even longer.  When she caught him in the act, he remedied the problem by taking eggs from Brooke’s basket.  That wasn’t very popular at first, but she went along with it and continued the fun with Emily. 

 

Katelyn and Sara had a blast hunting through the hills together.  They found lots of eggs and I was glad they were both “tick-free” when it  was over.

 

After the hunt we enjoyed a brisket filled picnic and the kids managed to have enough energy to keep playing.  It was such a fun day and we were so glad we could spend it with such great friends.

Emily loved every minute  of her big day but was definitely worn out.  Instead of running around with her sisters that night, the picture on the left shows what she did… SO NOT NORMAL for her.  A still and immobile Emily is the sure sign of a super fun day.
