The Day Emily Turned 4 Months Old

At 4 months old Miss Emily weighed 13 lbs 10 oz (30th percentile) and measured 24.75 inches (25th percentile ) long.  She is a happy baby except for when she is mad.  When things aren’t going her way she definitely lets you know and doesn’t stop until you right the wrong, what ever it may be.  Fortunately, we spent almost the entire four weeks leading up to the four month milestone visiting family and seeing old friends.  It was MUCH easier to keep Emily happy and feeling like the center of attention when there were extra people to help us cater to her every whim.  Her sweet smile and kissable cheeks  had everyone loving her and spoiling her, just the way she like it.  She absolutely loved having grandparents, great-grandmas, aunts, great-aunts, uncles, great-uncles, cousins, second-cousins and great friends to dote on her during the month of July.

In addition to going on her summer tour to see everyone, she also started sleeping like a rock star.  She stayed up late and would finally crash around midnight or 1:00 a.m.  But then she would sleep for TWELVE hours straight.  She’d join her roadies at the crack of noon and be ready to party again.  It wasn’t an ideal schedule, but it was fantastic to know she was capable of being asleep for that consecutive period of time.  Unfortunately, once her tour was over and we returned home, she went back to not sleeping for more than a few hours at a time.  I guess being on the road was more tiring for her than we realized. 

Some of her other “tricks” this month included rolling over in both directions and laughing out loud.  She tried really hard to “talk” and if you talk to someone other than her she really makes noise until you focus on her again.   She also loves to grab long hair or any lose flesh.  Elderly neck skin seems to be her favorite. 

All of my life my dad has made up funny songs.  While we were in Utah he penned his latest hit single we called “Bouncy Bouncy.”  Emily absolutely loved it and so did we.  When Pop would sing “Bouncy Bouncy” and do the accompanying dance, she would go from “cranky evening-time Emily” to “happy and quiet Emily.”  She loved snuggling on his shoulder and/or perching on his finger.  She would hang on to his shirt with one hand and grip his finger with her toes while she enjoyed her song.

Because of Emily’s extra hospital stays after she was born, the hospital asked to do an article about our experience at the hospital in their fall magazine edition.  So on the day Emily turned four months old, they took some pictures of our family to go with the article.  It was fun and almost pain-free except for when the photographer said for us “to act natural” and “just interact with each other.”  That’s not how the Hansen family rolls when there is a camera around.  But we did it and had a good time.

Emily is growing so fast and continues to bring so much joy into our home.  Between those cheeks and that smile, we can’t get enough of her.
