The Day We Celebrated at Chuck E. Cheese’s

For the first time in four years, Katelyn decided her family birthday dinner would be somewhere other than Bonsai - aka The Fish Restaurant.  Much to Kyle’s dismay and Brooke’s delight, she chose to celebrate at Chuck E. Cheese’s. 

Sometime during the evening I remembered that I too celebrated my 7th birthday with that magical mouse.  I had my mom scan this photo of me (purple dress) with my cousin Paige (back right) and friend Karen (back left).  The smiles say it all… it really is a great place where a kid can be a kid.

Meanwhile, back in 2009… we were enjoying pizza and sodas.  Katelyn was thrilled she got to pick any soda she wanted, since tonight was special there wasn’t just sprite or root beer on the menu… so she went with cherry coke.  After dinner, the girls headed straight for the rides and games. 

They had a blast on everything but the trolley was definitely their favorite.  They of course came up with an elaborate roll play activity to go with it that involved using the phone from a nearby game to buy their train tickets and order a pick up.  The role of conductor vs. passenger rotated and half the time they didn’t even put a coin in… the game and story line was far more exhilarating than the actual ride I guess.  Other kids even came to join in on the fun.  Most of them looked like they didn’t completely understand the game but they couldn’t argue with the amount of fun the girls were having together.

They liked “riding” on the school bus and playing in jail.

Katelyn and I played a crazy amount of Dance Dance revolution and she and Kyle had a heated battle on the air hockey table.

The girls had so much fun playing and earning tickets and were thrilled with their prizes.  By the end of the night we almost had the place to ourselves.  It was a great evening and I know Katelyn definitely felt celebrated.  Brooke is also a big fan of her sister’s birthday now… anything that results in a family trip to Chuck E. Cheese’s is great in her book.

We ended the night with ice cream at Baskin Robins.  It was a tough choice between blue bubble gum and cookie dough ice cream, but the birthday girl went with the latter of the two and said it was the best ice cream ever.  What a great night and what a great seven year old!
