The Day We Celebrated Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve Dinner 12-24-11a

We were so excited to have Gram and Pop spend Christmas with us this year.  On Christmas Eve we enjoyed a yummy fondue dinner together and ate more meat and cheese than the law allows.  Emily was a big fan of the broccoli – I liked it too, especially with bread and cheese all over it.

After dinner, the girls and Gram played some beautiful Christmas songs – it was so fun to watch all four of them at the piano together.

Christmas Eve Presents 12-24-11Later that evening, it was finally time for the girls to open a present.  They all picked the giant boxes that were from Grandma Carol and Gram and Pop.

Katelyn and Brooke picked out the packages they wanted to open about two weeks in advance.  They were so excited and hoped the presents contained their much anticipated Squinkie sets.

Emily was thrilled with her new Little People race track and she loved assembling it with Kyle.

Brooke’s wish came true when she ripped off the paper and found the beloved Squinkie Cruise Ship… a Christmas miracle.

Katelyn was equally stoked when she unwrapped the highly anticipated Squinkie Adventure Mall.

The girls couldn’t wait to give Pop his gift so he got to unwrap one that night too.  They got him a Kansas City Chiefs Pillow Pet.  He loved it and they LOVED surprising him with it.  Emily also loved borrowing it to sleep with that night.

We finished up the evening with by telling the Christmas Story and letting the girls act it out with our Fisher Price Nativity.  Emily provided a dramatic rendition of Mary riding the donkey by saddling up on Pop’s Pillow Pet.

Kate & Brooke's Santa Cookies 12-24-11

Just before it was time for bed, the girls set out some milk and cookies for Santa and some carrots and oats for the reindeers.  They were so excited and very worried they wouldn’t be able to sleep.  I chose not to tell them about my childhood sleeping solution for Christmas Eve – sneaking into the medicine cabinet and taking a hit of NyQuil.  It was awesome and the green death worked like a charm.  But now as a parent I CANNOT believe I did that.  Sorry mom and dad.  Hopefully they won’t figure that one out anytime soon.

I was a was not a silent night, but it really was a fantastic one.  Merry Christmas!
