The Day We Celebrated Brooke’s 5th Birthday

On January 8th, our little Brookie turned five.  Since her birthday was on Sunday, we turned it in to a birthday weekend and started celebrating on Saturday morning.

She picked McDonald’s take out for breakfast.  They love having breakfast there but wanted to enjoy a lazy morning in pajamas.

We let Brooke open her present from Grandma Carol so she would have the weekend with her sisters to work on and play in it.  They were all so excited that she got a giant Princess coloring castle and got started on it right away.

That afternoon, the mailman arrived with a special package for Brooke from our good friends in Seattle.  She was so excited to get a package from the Yosts that we let her open that one too.  It was filled with lots of treasures hand picked from our special friends.  They thought of everything… Stacey even included a baggie of tootsie rolls just like she used to keep in her purse for Brooke to have when we would run errands together.  Yes, I cried.

Brooke loved everything and Emily missed the message that it wasn’t for her.  She immediately put on the t-shirt and fuzzy socks and refused to take them off.

The girls played all afternoon in the castle until it was time for Brooke’s chosen activity – a birthday trip to Chuck E Cheese.

We played and dance and had a blast celebrating at one of their favorite party spots.  When we’d had our fill and it was time to eat, we headed out (thank goodness) to Red Robin for dinner.

We had a great dinner complete with loud singing, balloons and ice cream.  It was such a blast and so fun to see Brooke having so much fun being the birthday girl.  She wore her crown proudly all day long.

The best part, is that was just her pre-birthday, so we still had Sunday to look forward to.  She woke up and immediately put her crown back on to start her birthday.  We had to get ready for church so she just had a quick bowl of her favorite cereal (cinnamon toast crunch), some chocolate milk and of course, an Oreo cupcake.

During Church, the Primary sang to her.  I had prepared myself for it so that I wouldn’t cry, but when she walked up with there with a big smile on her face and looking so grown up, I couldn’t help myself.  Five years went by WAY too fast.

When we came home, she requested Kyle’s Cookies and Cream French Toast for lunch.  During all the fun, she got lots of phone calls from our wonderful family and friends.  There was no doubt that she felt loved and special.

Her sisters loved watching and helping and checking out all of her fun new stuff.

Emily helped herself to test drive just about everything.  The camera was her favorite and she spent some time relaxing in the castle too.

After playtime and dinner and then more playtime, it was time for cake.  Brooke decided she wanted the same Barbie cake that she had last year.  I told her she could pick anything she wanted, but she really loved that cake, so we did a repeat.

To complete her birthday celebration, we invited the Wills family to join us for cake.  We sang to the birthday girl and then cut Barbie into pink and purple pieces of sugary goodness.  We washed it down with the Oreo cupcakes.

It was a very happy 5th birthday and I am so glad we got to have a birthday weekend for our sweet Brookie.  Happy Birthday Peanut!  We love you!

Wow! It's hard to believe your sweet girl is 5 years old! Where did the time go? Wasn't she just barely born? Crazy. She's growing into a beautiful girl! Love, Nana Shanna
