The Day Emily Learned About Sledding

This winter, our snowfall has been few and far between.  The girls were dying to go sledding but the wintry goodness kept coming during the week so sledding wasn’t an option.  Not only do the girls have lessons almost every afternoon but the sun goes down here by 4:30 p.m., so it doesn’t leave a lot of time for outdoor winter fun… at least not if they want me to be a part of it.

Anyway, the snow finally came and lasted until a Saturday, so we headed for the hills.

We did a lot of sledding last year, but Emily seemed to always be napping during the fun, so this was her chance to give it a try.

Brooke was excited to have a sledding buddy, so we loaded them up and Kyle towed them up the hill.  I was glad my job was videographer.  Emily wasn’t too sure what she was in for, but she loved it immediately.

 

During their adventures down the hill, they went over a few big bumps that tipped the sled and actually rolled them off once or twice.  Emily didn’t care at all.  She was with Brooke, it was fun and since Brooke didn’t cry or seem to care about the turbulence, neither did she.  Emily knows that if she is going to run with the big kids there are certain standards of behavior she needs to exhibit.  She LOVES to be big.  And based on the results of this event, she loves to go sledding.

Katelyn had a great time too and was really into perfecting her launch.  She was excited that we ran into one of her friends from school.  He and his sister joined in on the fun and we all played until we were worn out.

I felt soreness in muscles that I am certain I’d never used prior to that day.  Towing kids up the hill was a humbling reminder that I am no spring chicken anymore.  We had so much fun and it was so fun to watch them enjoy sledding together. 

Obviously Kyle and I have no childhood memories with iPods, iPhones or iPads, but fortunately, sledding is something that never changes.  It doesn’t need a Wi-fi connection and it won’t be obsolete in 6 months.  It was and always will be, pure awesomeness.
