The Day Katelyn Learned to Fish

So just one short week after Emily’s first camping trip, we had an opportunity to pack up half our house again and go camping with our ward at our church owned camp site – Camp Peine.  The kids were so excited and anxious to camp with friends this time. 

The weather was beautiful and the kids immediately headed for the lake.  That is when the magic happened… Katelyn has wanted to try out fishing for quite awhile and this was her chance.  Several of the dads were helping all the interested kids “fish” off the dock.

Katelyn was hooked to say the least.  She enjoyed it so much that our friend Roberto made a fishing pole for her out of a stick.  She was determined to catch a fish… so of course, SHE DID!

She caught her very first fish (a little perch) on a stick.  She was so proud but a little grossed out as it flailed around on her line.  As soon as the pictures were taken she was happy to hand the whole thing over to Roberto who quickly returned her little fish to the lake.  She was ecstatic!

The kids had a blast playing on the beach with their buddies and Emily was determined to taste some sand.

The kids played until the sun was almost down – roasting hotdogs on the fire was the only way we could tear them away from the water fun.

We had a great time and Katelyn loved fishing so much that she asked Santa for a fishing pole and tackle box.  Kyle and I are asking Santa to have Roberto offer to take her fishing with their family.
