The Day Katelyn Started Soccer

In the spring of 2008, Katelyn decided she wanted to play soccer. So I made the call that March to get her signed up. The only problem was that the people at the Soccer Association laughed hysterically at me. Apparently, if you want your child to play soccer in the spring you need to sign them up in May of the year prior. So we got her signed up in May so she could play in the fall and spring.

Katelyn and her BFF Sara really wanted to play on the same team but that takes an act of congress to make happen, so they ended up playing separate teams this year. Katelyn played for the Pink Ladybugs (her suggestion for the team name) and she had a wonderfully patient and talented coach. Her teammates had all played soccer before, in fact, four of them had been playing since they were three. They had mad soccer skills, so Katelyn got to learn from a great coach and some very talented teammates. It is humbling to realize that four six year old little girls could easily beat you senseless at sport.

Our family had a lot of fun going to the games. Brooke loved cheering for the Pink Ladybugs and thought it was great when Katelyn could come and sit with her on the sidelines.

We had really nice weather for most of the games and were only miserably cold and wet twice. During one of the games it rained so hard and fast that the cup holders on the stroller were full of water by the end of the game. It was at that point that I reminded Katelyn how cozy and warm the ballet studio is EVERY single week.

We are so proud of Katelyn - even though soccer didn't come easily for her, she never gave up and tried her hardest. She really enjoyed playing and is looking forward to playing again with the Pink Ladybugs in the spring.
