The Day We Went to the Fair

Katelyn's 1st grade class 9-12-08One of the great things about being a first grader is the field trip to the county fair. So, on the 7th day of school, we headed to the fair. Gram and Pop were in town because later that day we were Gram Pop & Brooke @ the fair 9-12-08leaving for a trip to Glacier National Park, so they got to come too. The other exciting news was that the kids each earned their very own cowboy/girl hat by successfully turning in their first homework assignments. Katelyn was so excited that she could pick a blue hat since that is still holding strong as her favorite color and Brooke was happy to wear it when Katelyn wanted a break.

Kate's group at the fair 9-12-08aHer field trip group consisted of 5 other darling girls from her class. She had a lot of fun but would definitely have preferred to have been with her BFGFs (best first grade friends). But since two of them are boys and Sara is in the other class, it wasn't in the cards. We did end up walking around with the group that the boys were in, so that made everything more fun in Katelyn's eyes.

We saw lots of fun animals and even got to pet and feed a few of them.

"Luma" the turtle was a definite favorite, but I think he was trying to "run" away... thank goodness the kids didn't notice.

Joey 9-12-08Getting a chance to see "Joey" the joey was another big hit with all of the kids. I don't know where his mama was but he didn't seem too excited about the loud kids looking at him. You could tell he would have jumped in the first pouch that came his way.

I was particularly fond of "Sassy" & "Big Mama" the giant pigs along with the little piglet we found a few stalls down. I love bacon.

Eating lunch on the "grass" was another big highlight - all 12 kids in the two groups were so much fun and no one ran away, so that made things very pleasant. We had been warned by the teacher that one of the boys was a flight risk, so it was a huge relief when he seemed content with the group activities.Fair lunch group part 1Fair lunch group part 2

Mike and I will have to take our kids there next year - I'm afraid it's the closest thing to a zoo around here. Plus, my kids love animals. Looked like fun.
