The Day We Left for Glacier

For Mother's Day and Father's Day this year, we gave my parents a trip to Glacier National Park. So, after a fun morning at the county fair with Katelyn and her class, we left for Glacier. Right after we left, we had to make a stop in Coeur d'Alene so Kyle could finish something up at the office. Even though we were only 20 minutes into the drive, we decided to get ice cream while we waited. The adults had fresh huckleberry shakes (they were amazing), while the girls enjoyed some ice cream cones. We let Brooke hold her own and she loved it! She tried to copy what Katelyn was doing, but instead ended up with a nice sized trough-like opening that she used to suck the ice cream out.

Once we had Kyle with us and our treats were history, we headed for Montana. The drive was good and uneventful - just the way we like it. So, after a great dinner that night at Mackenzie River Pizza, we headed for our cabin. We had done a lot of research on where to stay and decided that a cabin close to the park would be fun. Thanks to the Internet, we were able to find lots of options, but I ultimately made the decision... so I was really anxious to see if the place I picked would be as great at it appeared to be. After dinner, it was very late and very dark (they should call it "Big DARK Sky Country") and we could not find the cabins or the main office to check in. The pathetic part was that we had very detailed instructions on how to get there, the physical address of the main lodge and a GPS system in our van - but we still couldn't find it. So, after talking to a stranger in a parking lot and asking some locals in a bar for help, we finally stumbled upon it. To my great relief, the cabin was AMAZING! It was very nice (everything looked brand new) and it was huge. It had the cutest dishes too . There was just one problem, the girls loved it so much we knew that getting them to leave the cabin voluntarily in the morning to go sightseeing all day would not be popular. . .
