The Day We Did Some Decorating

Kate & Brooke's Gingerbread house 12-6-09a

The girls were so excited for Gingerbread House day and we were thrilled to continue our tradition of making our house during Gram’s  annual  Christmas visit.

I am always in charge of the initial house construction, then while we wait for it to cure we read the Gingerbread Girl.  It is so fun to have Katelyn be our reader – thank goodness they still need me to put the house together though :)

After the story, they started to eat a ton of candy decorate.  There are always those moments where you wonder if any candy will make it on to the house, but somehow it always does and the sugar buzz eventually wears off.

Kate & Brooke's mini trees 12-6-09aNext it was time to decorate the little Christmas trees we put in their rooms.  Both girls definitely had a vision for their tree and dove right into the decorating process.

Katelyn’s tree was very well organized and all the ornaments were spaced out quite nicely.  Brooke’s tree had a different look… she started off ok but ended up with some “clumping” as you can see on the bottom left hand  side of her tree.  We didn’t say anything but right after the picture, she looked at it and then exclaimed that it looked “weird” and she proceeded to spread everything out.  It was so cute but made me realize how fleeting those “kid moments” really are…

Once they were satisfied with their designs we moved the trees up to their rooms and hooked up the timers.  There is something so great about sleeping in a room by the glow of Christmas lights.  Tis the season…
