Nothing says Christmas Break quite like an afternoon filled with fun, friends and frosting. The kids got to decorate a gingerbread house (Brooke was the candy tester for that project) and some little chocolate cakes shaped like Christmas trees and gingerbread men.
The kids were very clever with their designs as well as how they rotated between putting candy and frosting on the treats and then in their mouths. Thank goodness everyone had their own knife.
Despite the sugar buzz, the kids waited patiently for me to take pictures of them with their creations. Stacey, Alli and I all ate ours too fast to document our designs but let me assure you they tasted even better than they looked.
At the end of round one, we took a break and watched some Christmas shows. The sugar buzz was good but thankfully it subsided enough that we could start round two – decorating sugar cookies for Santa.
As a quality control measure, all cookies and frostings were carefully tested and sampled prior to working on the cookies for Santa. In addition, to ensure his overall enjoyment of the cookies, everyone made one or two (or five) finished products to sample before working on the ones for that Jolly Old Fellow.
These are pictures of some of the crowd favorites which were chosen primarily based on quantity of candy decor and depth of frosting. Once again, the creations from three of the decorators did not last long enough for a picture to be taken and I was getting dizzy from my sugar buzz.
That night when dinner rolled around I was looking forward to something with a little protein in it. Katelyn felt the same way but Brooke announced that she didn’t want to eat anything. It was only 6:50 p.m. but it had been a big day, so we told her that if she was too tired to eat she could go upstairs and go to bed. Without hesitation she welcomed the invitation and headed off to bed. This is how we found her no more than five minutes later. She slept until almost 9:00 a.m. the next day. Celebrating with frosting is hard work but somebody’s got to do it.
