On September 28th, Miss Emily turned 18 months old. She seems to have grown and changed so much the last couple of months, I wanted to record some of our favorite things about her at this fun age that didn’t already get a post of their own.
Emily LOVES to say hello or hi and wave to almost anyone. She has replaced her infamous “stink eye” look with her cute little voice offering greetings to everyone. She also loves to wave and blow kisses while she says “bye-bye” or “see ya!” She is a parrot and will repeat EVERYTHING you say, whether it is to her or not. She usually doesn’t say no, instead she prefers “don’t!” and “go away!” I am worried about that one, because it isn’t nearly as cute after she has said it 20 times. She also is great at announcing when it is time to leave or when she wants to leave. You know it’s time to go when Emily says, “Go go go, buckle buckle buckle.”
One of her favorite things ever (currently) is Pocket-Bac (hand sanitizer) from Bath and Body Works. She calls them “shake,” and if she sees one or knows where it is, she HAS to have it!
She also insists on feeding herself. It makes her so proud. She does pretty well most of the time, and even when she doesn’t, it makes us smile for reasons pictured below.
She loves to talk on the phone and is very adept at unlocking smart phones and iPods. If she sees an LCD screen, she expects a loved one to be there ready to Skype as soon as she says their name. She loves it when Pop sings to her too. She joins in on the words she knows and dances the whole time.
Her vocabulary is also a complete crack up. She has so many words and phrases, I couldn’t list them all if I tried. The thing you have to remember when she is around is “if you say it, she will repeat it and remember it and say it over and over, in context.” She demonstrated that the other night when we pulled up to pick up Katelyn from Activity Days at the church. I no sooner had the car in park, than she said, “Katelyn, come on!” I can’t imagine where she’s heard that before. My favorite thing she says though is when she gives you a pat on the back and/or kiss and says, “Love you.” It is so sweet.
She loves Elmo and Bert (awkward), Dora and the Bubble Guppies. She also recently discovered Little Einsteins and boy did that rock her world. She loves to “pat pat pat” along with June, Leo, Quincy and Annie. Brooke is her partner in crime with those shows. I think they enjoy not having to watch iCarly while Katelyn is at school.
Just like Katelyn and Brooke, she insists on having way too many stuffed animals and blankets in bed with her. If you remove anything, she notices immediately and demands its quick return. Sometimes it is hard to find her in there and she almost always has her face completely covered.
She loves to be silly and once she gets a reaction, she adds that bit to her regular performance lineup. One of our favorites is when she raids the girls’ underwear drawers. We jokingly called them hats once, she put it on her head and we laughed, so now panties are always hats.
Emily inherited Brooke’s love of purses. She loves to have one with her, but at church, she tries to carry all of the purses we have with us. It makes for a lot of grunting but she eventually gets them all on her arms and shoulders and that makes her happy.
She loves to play outside and climbs up to the playhouse like a little monkey. She loved our garden and thinks picking and eating fresh tomatoes is a real treat.
She also loves to dance and she will dance anytime anywhere. She loved dancing at the Farmer’s Market this summer but her favorite place to shake it is at home with her party people.
One of Emily’s latest tricks involves her method of getting others to do what she wants them to do. For example, when the girls have a dance party in the living room, if someone stops dancing, Emily will go and get them. She will reach for their hand while saying “hand hand hand, come on!” Then, once she has you and you start heading her direction, she says, “Alright! Let’s go! Dance Dance Dance!” It is hard to resist.
Sometimes they pretend they don’t like it, but it actually seems to be an integral part of the fun for all three girls.
Now that Emily is 18 months old, she gets to attend her very own little class for two hours when we are at church. Her first day of nursery went really well. I snuck out when it was time to leave, in order to minimize any trauma and she did great. She loved the bubbles and songs and toys. Her only issue was when she fell off her chair, that made her mad, but she got over it quickly and moved on quite well. I told her not to worry about it, it happens to the best of us.
Emily we love and enjoy you so much. Thanks for bringing so much laughter and joy into our family. We love you baby girl!
