The Day Katelyn Turned Nine

Right after returning from our summer travels, it was time to celebrate Katelyn’s 9th birthday.  She decided she was “too old” to have a character theme, but she requested blue (big surprise there) partyware, a giant blue donut cake with rainbow sprinkles and rainbow cupcakes.  

 

For her birthday breakfast, she really wanted to go to McDonald’s, her only hesitation was not eating at home with the highly coveted birthday placement.  I told her it would all work out, so she decided we should go to McDonald’s.  I smuggled in the placemat, so she was thrilled.  We had a fun breakfast and the girls had the play land all to themselves.

Katelyn’s request for her birthday day, was an afternoon at Ft. Sherman Park in Coeur d’Alene with her best buddies. 

We had a picnic lunch, and the kids played until they were about to pass out from the heat.  Then we opened presents, ate cupcakes and played some more.

Even though Katelyn hadn’t planned on moving the fun to the lake, that is where we ended up.  Their street clothes didn’t slow them down either…

It was such a fun afternoon and Katelyn loved every minute of it.  I was so happy that none of her birthday this year involved anything to do with an irregular heartbeat or going to the hospital.

For her birthday dinner she chose Olive Garden which was a definite crowd pleaser for our family.  Instead of making her wait until after dinner, we let her open her much anticipated present so she would have some time to check it out.  I had it charged and everything, but since I am a Droid user, I had no idea that it needed to spend some time with iTunes before she would even be able to do anything with it.  She didn’t mind a bit though.  She was just happy to have it.

After dinner we headed home for cake and frosting.  We spent the rest of the evening just hanging out and celebrating our incredibly amazing nine year old little girl, who isn’t so little anymore.  Katelyn is such a tremendous joy in our lives and we are so grateful to have her in our family.  As much as I would love to freeze time and never let her get “too” big, I am having so much fun standing by her side as she grows up into the remarkable young lady we knew she would become.

Katelyn, it truly is an honor and a blessing to be your mom. We love you so much and hope your birthday celebrations helped you remember how special you are to your family and friends.
