The Day We Hike to Cascade Falls

Cascade falls - 8-12-11cOn Orcas Island we found a nice hike in Moran State Park that was perfectly geared for our crew.  We enjoyed a nice walk along the beautiful trail.  Emily assumed her position as the “daddy hat” and the girls navigated our way there.  Just before we reached the falls we had to cross the creek bed by walking across a fallen tree.  If you ask Katelyn and Brooke about it, we had to walk on a balance beam across the grand canyon.  They were so proud of themselves and thought it was such a great trail.

The best part about our adventure was that the water level was low enough that the girls could play right next to the falls.  We also happened to be the only ones there, so we had lots of fun playing and exploring.

We also introduced Emily to rocks.  She loved them so much and carefully explored each and everyone of them.  She also quickly learned how to call them by name, which she used to demand others to pick them up and hand them to her when they were out of her reach (or when she just didn’t want to reach that far for the one she had her eye on).  It sounded something like this, “rock, Rock, ROck, ROCk, ROCK, ROCK, ROCK!”  She was very convincing in her request.  It was easier to just comply and get it over with, because she wouldn’t stop until we did.

The hike back was beautiful too.  The sun was at the perfect position and was flooding through the trees.  It was a fun adventure and now we know how to keep Emily happy… just give her a bunch of rocks.
