Based on recommendations from several friends, we decided that summiting Mt. Constitution while we were on Orcas Island was definitely on our to-do list. Given that 3/5 of our Girl Scout troop are not avid hikers we decided that hiking 7.2 miles with a 1500 foot elevation gain to 2409 feet might not be the best idea for our crew. Fortunately, our friends also told us about the nice paved road that would take us right to the top. That suited our group perfectly.
The view was spectacular!
Besides the beautiful view from the overlook, the girls were so excited when they saw the the stone tower and found out we could climb to the top. Brooke thought it looked like a Rapunzel tower, which automatically made it super cool in her book. Emily loved being carried up and down the winding staircase and checking out all the little rooms and windows.
We had a great time taking in the 360 degree view of the Puget Sound – it was beautiful and pleasantly achieved thanks to paved roads and our Swagger Wagon.
