The Day We Took the Crew to the Zoo

The zoo crew 7-22-11

Since we don’t have a zoo in Spokane, the girls were super excited to make a visit to Utah’s Hogle Zoo this summer.  It was a beautiful day and the animals did not disappoint.

We timed it just right and got to see the bird show in the Wildlife Theater.  Birds were swooping all around us and one even grazed Pop’s head.  Thank goodness, none of them used us a target practice.

The birds were really beautiful and so well trained.

The flocks of doves was beautiful and the girls loved seeing the talking birds and different owls.  The Hedwig look-alike was our favorite but I somehow managed to not get a picture of him.

The bald eagle was breathtakingly beautiful too – especially with the American flag in the background.  We loved getting to see him up close (for a small donation) but boy, I would not want to meet up with him in a dark alley.  Yikes.

The girls also got to feed the cockatoo a monetary donation.  He would take the money and deposit it in the box.  I totally need to teach Emily that trick.

After the bird show we had a good time checking out all the exhibits and seeing the animals even though it was super hot and very crowded.   But the intense heat lead to Icee refills, so I think the girls actually welcomed the scorching temperatures.

The girls also loved the dinosaurs they found throughout the zoo.

Emily's zoo nap 7-22-11

Somewhere along the way, a very exhausted Emily passed out in the stroller.  She slept just long enough to recharge her 16 month old batteries (about 30 minutes) and then she was good to go.

She was glad she woke up in time to ride the carrousel with her sisters.  They all loved the peacock seat.  Emily liked that she was on my lap and Katelyn and Brooke said it made them feel like they were in a parade.

Everyone also loved the zoo train… an oldie, but goodie.

We had a couple of extra train tickets, so Katelyn and Brooke even got to do a second ride solo which they thought was pretty cool.

While they rode the train, Emily found the water ball.  It was love at first splash.
